If the recently-announced Sony Xperia Z4 didn’t pique your interest, perhaps the Xperia P2 will.
Alleged images and details of a device referred to as the “Sony Xperia P2” have been revealed by Chinese site CnBeta. The device is said to be powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a beefy 4240mAh battery. The P2 is also reportedly packing a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 TRILUMINOS display — just like the Xperia Z4 — as well as a 12.1-megapixel rear camera, 5.1-megapixel front camera, and 32GB of storage. All of those features are packed into a body that’s said to measure 10.9mm at its thickest and 8.9mm at its thinnest.
Compared to the Xperia Z4, the Xperia P2 has a lower resolution camera but a considerably beefier battery: the Z4’s juice pack is 2930mAh. The P2’s design is also pretty different from the Z4, offering a look that’s reminiscent of the original Xperia P with a translucent bar and “Sony” block at its bottom.
While the Xperia P2’s spec list is radically different from the Xperia Z4’s, the P2’s gigantic battery is sure to pique the interest of some folks, even if it results in a phone that’s slightly chunkier than other flagships. The rest of the P2’s feature set is pretty nice, too, packing in a Snapdragon 810 and 3GB of RAM. Of course, the P2’s rear camera has a lower resolution than the Z4’s, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a respectable shooter. We’ll just have to wait until the P2 makes it debut to judge the camera for ourselves. Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the phone might be announced.
