Nearly one year to the day that the OnePlus One made its debut, OnePlus has announced that the phone is available for purchase anytime by anyone.
OnePlus is now hosting open sales of the One, meaning that anyone can buy one at any time without an invitation. You can snag at 16GB Silk White version for $299, while the more capacious 64GB Sandstone Black version will set you back $349.
In addition to kicking off open One sales, OnePlus is offering its One Bamboo StyleSwap Cover ($49.99) without an invitation and cutting the price of the OnePlus One Flip Covers and Premium Screen Protectors by 75 percent, leaving those two accessories at $3.75 and $1.50, respectively. Those promotions will only last 24 hours, though.
During the first year of its life, the OnePlus One was sold using an invitation system to help the small company keep up with demand for its device. And while it’s been easier to come by a OnePlus One recently thanks to the device being available to all on Tuesdays, the fact that anyone can now buy a unit anytime they’d like is a big deal. Sure, it may not be the newest phone around, but the OnePlus One is still a Android phone for $300 or $350 without a contract.
OnePlus has also reaffirmed that, yes, the OnePlus 2 will launch with an invitation system. The company explains that it will get super-thin margins on its next phone in order to “give as much value” to its consumers, and so the invite system helps OnePlus manage its risk.
Now that the OnePlus One is available without an invitation, are any of you going to take advantage and snag a unit?
