Smartphones and other mobile devices seem to constantly getting faster with better cameras and more storage. But one area that doesn’t seem to be progressing quite as quickly is battery technology. A new report claims that Google is working to change that.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Google has a four-person team in its Google X research facility that’s dedicated to improving battery technology for consumer electronics, like smartphones and Google Glass. The team is said to be lead by Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj, who used to be a battery guru at Apple. Dr. Bhardwaj’s team is working to improve both the lithium-ion batteries that we all know, as well as newer solid state batteries, for consumer products.
As I mentioned before, battery technology for consumer products doesn’t seem to be progressing quite as quickly as a lot of other tech. And considering how many different consumer products Google either currently offers or is planning to offer, it makes sense that El Goog would want to try to help speed up battery advancements and make its products better.
