Remember how, back in February, someone got an iPhone and a Moto 360 to (kinda) work together? Well, it looks like Google is also working on getting iOS to work with Android Wear.
Google is “close” to finishing work on getting the iPhone to work with Android Wear, a source tells The Verge. In its current state, which has most of the technical details completed, it’s said that the iPhone is running a companion app that lets it communicate with Android Wear. Standard notifications will appear on an Android Wear device, as well as Google Now notification cards, voice actions, and deeper features for iOS Google apps.
It’s no surprise to hear that Google is working on getting Android Wear to work with the iPhone. After all, iOS is a major platform, and I’m sure that Google wants as many people using Android Wear as it can get. The question is, would Apple let actually let an Android Wear companion app into the iOS App Store. Sure, there are already many Google apps on iOS, but Apple is getting ready to launch a smartwatch of its own. That’s an entirely new product for Apple, and I’m sure that the Cupertino firm would like iPhone owners interested in a smartwatch to just go straight to the Apple Watch rather than consider an Android Wear device.
