Both Meerkat and Periscope are currently iOS only, leaving Android users out of the broadcasting craziness that’s been going on lately. That’s going to change soon.
Periscope recently put up a blog post highlighting some of the big broadcasts that’ve come out of its app in its early days, and it also responded to a handful of common complaints about the app that’ve cropped up so far. One of those was about the absence of an Android version of Periscope, but the company says that it’s working on an Android app and that it’s coming “soon.”
We typically see apps launch simultaneously on Android and iOS, but for whatever reason (possibly because Periscope’s team is smaller), that’s not the case with Periscope. Now that Periscope has launched on iOS and is owned by Twitter, though, the company can crank away on an Android version of the app. There’s no word on exactly when Periscope for Android will launch, but I’m sure Twitter wants to get it out the door as soon as possible to get even more users to broadcast on the service.
Have you checked out Periscope yet? If so, what do you think of it?
