Ever since Motorola pushed Android 5.0 to the Moto X (2nd Gen.), owners of the original Moto X are probably wondering where their Lollipop update is. Today we’ve got some news on the matter.

David Schuster, Motorola’s Senior Director of Product Management, says that his company has decided to skip the Android 5.0 update for the Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto E (1st Gen.), and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen.). Instead, those devices will go straight from Android 4.4.4 to Android 5.1. Schuster explains that while they’re currently testing Android 5.0.2 for those devices, they’ve also started looking at Android 5.1 and have decided that given all of the improvements in that update, it makes more sense to just bump the first generation Moto devices straight to 5.1.

This is exciting news for owners of the Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto E (1st Gen.), and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen.) because it guarantees them an Android 5.1 update, and it means that they may get that update sooner than if they go from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 then to 5.1. However, it also means that they’ll likely have to wait longer to jump from KitKat to Lollipop because Motorola is going to axe its work on a 5.0.2 update and start focusing on 5.1 instead. There’s no word on when the 5.1 update might begin rolling out.
