UPDATE: HTC says that the Uh-Oh Protection program also covers any HTC One M8 purchased on or after March 25 and prior to August 31. HTC's Uh-Oh Protection program terms and conditions also note that new HTC One M9's purchased prior to August 31 are eligible for a free replacement.
A couple of weeks after announcing the One M9, HTC has revealed a new program to help protect buyers of its new flagship Android smartphone.
HTC Uh-Oh Protection is a new program that’ll provide one year of protection for new HTC One M9 units. Included with the program is one free replacement device within the first 12 months of ownership for a cracked screen, water damage, or if you change carriers. And if you’re lucky and don’t need a replacement, HTC Uh-Oh Protection will give you $100 toward the purchase of a future HTC One device.
If you do end up needing a replacement One M9, you simply place a call to HTC Care. An HTC team member will then overnight you a replacement device. It’s worth noting that HTC will place a $299 hold on your credit card until they get your broken phone. If you’d prefer not to have a hold on your card, you can send HTC your damaged phone first and then get a replacement phone within two days of HTC receiving your old unit.
HTC’s Uh-Oh Protection expands upon the HTC Advantage program that launched in early 2014 and offered a free one-time screen replacement within the first six months of ownership. Uh-Oh Protection is a much bigger program, extending the protection period to one year and including water damage and even carrier switches. That last part is big because carriers are all about paying ETFs for switchers lately, and if HTC offers a free replacement for anyone that changes carriers, it’ll keep those customers in the HTC family with zero effort on the customer’s part.
