It may not be Update Wednesday, but that’s not stopping Google from pushing out a notable app update.
An update to the Messenger app is now rolling out with a couple of big new features. First is support for animated GIFs, which are all the rage on the internet these days. Second is a widget, which ought to help you view your text messages on your home screen rather than having to dive into the app itself. Today’s update also includes some unspecified performance improvements and bug fixes.
Google’s got a couple of different text message apps available for consumers: Hangouts and Messenger. While some folks might prefer Hangouts since it can help cut down on the number of messaging apps that they need, others might like the look of Messenger or they may just like having SMS and Hangouts separate.
