Universal Music Player is a new app from Google that’s meant as a reference for Android app developers. The app shows how devs can create an app that supports multiple devices and form factors, all in a single codebase. The Universal Music player app is compatible with Android phones and tablets, Android Auto, Android Wear, and Google Cast products. It’s able to support multiple form factors by using Android 5.0 features that allot it to show album art and media playback controls with just one version of the app.

Google’s now got Android on all kinds of different hardware, ranging from smartphones and tablets to in-car devices and wearables. Obviously it wants its developers to have apps on all of those products, but having to develop separate apps for each form factor would likely give most devs a headache.
