Upcoming Android Wear update said to include Wi-Fi support, flick-to-scroll, and more

At the tail end of last year, Google announced that Android Wear was gaining major new features like support for watch face downloads and card dismissal. Now details on the features that’ll be included in Android Wear’s next major update have leaked.

The next Android Wear update will reportedly include Wi-Fi support, allowing the smartwatches to get notifications and use Google Now without a Bluetooth connection. Also said to be coming to Android Wear is a gesture control feature that’ll let you scroll through alerts and cards by flicking your wrist. Finally, The Verge says that it’ll soon be easier to find Android Wear apps and contacts.

These updates sound like they’ll really boost Android Wear’s usability, allowing wearers to get more use out of their smartwatch when they don’t have a Bluetooth connection and making it easier to use an Android Wear device. Google has been steadily improving Android Wear since the platform’s release last year, but with the Apple Watch getting close, it’s more important than ever that Google continue to make its wearable software better.
