A new Google app has appeared!
Google tonight quietly uploaded a new Android app to the Google Play Store. Titled “Interactive Events,” the app offers agenda details and speaker biographies for events. The app is at version 1.0 and requires Android 4.0 or higher.
Interestingly, it appears that Google forgot to remove the dogfooding warning before launching Interactive Events to the public. When you first launch the app, you’re greeted by a message that says:
CONFIDENTIAL DOGFOOD
Shhh! This is a CONFIDENTIAL internal dogfood version of the Interactive Events app. Do not show this to non-Googlers and do not discuss this externally.
If you’re not familiar, “dogfooding” means to test a piece of software internally with your own employees before releasing it to the public.
So what’s up with the Interactive Events app? The screenshots included with its listing show the home page of an event, its agenda, and some settings that include things like using your local time instead of the conference’s time, syncing sessions with your Google Calendar, and notifying you about upcoming selected sessions. It looks like Interactive Events could be a template app that can be used by other companies hosting conferences, giving them a quick and easy way to set up an app for their attendees rather than having to build an app from scratch. This also ensures that conference apps look good with Android itself.
