We may be in the midst of a crazy Mobile World Congress, but that hasn’t stopped Google from dropping its latest Android platform distribution stats.

Google’s Android platform distribution numbers are the result of data collected from Android devices that accessed Google Play during the 7-day period ending on today, March 2. Android 5.0 Lollipop finished at 3.3 percent, more than double the 1.6 percent share that it had last month.

Android 4.4 KitKat grew as well, moving from 39.7 percent in February to 40.9 percent in March. Other versions of Android weren’t so lucky: Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean fell from 44.5 percent to 42.6 percent, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich dropped from 6.4 percent to 5.9 percent. 

Looking at pre-Android 4.0 versions, there are still a couple of desserts hanging on. Android 2.3 Gingerbread fell half a percent to 6.9 percent, while Android 2.2 Froyo held steady at a 0.4 percent share.

The exciting news here is that Android 5.0 more than double its share from February to March, but the down side to that is that Lollipop is still at less than 5 percent adoption. Expect that to change in the coming months, though, as flagship devices like the Galaxy S6 and One M9 launch with Android 5.0 in tow.
