Problems between Samsung's U.S. and Korean teams may have played role in recent slippage

Samsung’s Galaxy line of smartphones has helped it to become one of the top mobile companies in the world. The company is still a major player today, but it's hit a bit of a stumbling block lately, and today one possible reason for that has surfaced.

In a lengthy report on Samsung’s rise to the top of the mobile pile and then its recent slippage, Business Insider reports that the success that Samsung’s U.S. team caused problems between it and Samsung’s Korean headquarters. In fact, Samsung allegedly flew company executives to Samsung U.S.’s office in Dallas to hold a three-week audit. Samsung’s execs are said to have accused Samsung U.S. of lying about sales numbers and bribing the media, and so they went through all of Samsung U.S.’s documents and marketing materials. Ultimately, though, Samsung’s executives went back to Korea empty-handed.

Later on, Samsung is said to have had all of its global teams at Samsung HQ in Korea for a meeting, and it made the U.S. group stand up in front of all the other employees. Samsung execs then told the employees to clap for the U.S. group to encourage them since they were the only ones failing Samsung.

If these stories are true, it’s easy to see how the actions of Samsung’s Korean group could cause a rift between it and the U.S. team. There are other factors that’ve caused Samsung to slip a bit from its mobile throne, including Apple and the rise of Chinese phone makers like Xiaomi, but this complication between Samsung’s U.S. and Korean groups could drive down the U.S. team’s morale and reduce its quality of work.
