Earlier this week, Google announced that it was acquiring Softcard tech to bolster Google Wallet. That’s exciting news for Google Wallet users, but now it’s been revealed that the deal isn’t so awesome for some Softcard users.
Softcard has posted a FAQ regarding its deal with Google that reveals that the Softcard for Windows Phone app is going to be terminated. There’s no word yet on exactly which date the app will bite the dust, but Softcard says that it’ll share more information “soon.”
Google isn’t exactly a huge fan of Windows Phone, as evidenced by its extremely light app support and selection on Microsoft’s platform. Now that Google has acquired Softcard’s technology and plans to shut down the Softcard apps, it’s no surprise to see that the Windows Phone app is going to be terminated too. It’s unclear if Google will ever release a Google Wallet app for Windows Phone, but here’s to hoping it does so that Windows Phone users can once again have a good mobile payment solution.
