Wondering if Google is going to make a follow-up to that Chromebook Pixel that introduced two years ago? Wonder no more.

Renee Niemi, who heads up Android and Chrome for Work and EDU at Google, seems to have confirmed that a new Chromebook Pixel is in the works. Speaking at Google’s TeamWork 2015 event this week, Niemi says that Google has a “new Pixel” and that it’s “coming out soon.” The quote was discovered by OMG Chrome! in a video of the event which has since been made private. Niemi’s full quote is as follows:

“We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And […] our developers and our Googlers consume 85 percent of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out.”

When it was released, the original Chromebook Pixel was a super high-end Chromebook with a metal body, 12.85-inch 2560x1700 touch display, 1.5GHz dual-core Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a metal body. However, the OG Pixel has become just a bit outdated in the past two years, especially with much-improved Intel chips coming out. Niemi’s quote makes it sound like the Pixel 2 could be just as impressive as the original model, though, which is exciting news for Chrome OS fans. Just know that if you’re interested in the Pixel 2, you may want to start saving your pennies now, because the original model cost $1300.
