Remember that Pebble for Android beta v2.3 update that came out in mid-December and came with it actionable notifications and Android Wear support? Exactly two months later, that feature has officially dropped its beta tag.
The Pebble for Android app is now officially being updated to version 2.3, and as I mentioned before, the major new feature here is support for Android Wear notifications. That means that you can now act on Android Wear notifications and set up to five custom replies. You can then send those replies from your Pebble and through “most” Android SMS apps.
Also included in Pebble for Android v2.3 are automatic app and watch face updates when your Pebble is idle, a fix for WhatsApp notification issues, bug fixes, stability improvements, and more. Here’s Pebble’s full changelog:
Meanwhile, the Pebble for iOS app is being updated to version 2.6.4 and includes two small changes: the addition of the latest JavaScript Pebble apps for iOS in the Pebble appstore, and some unnamed bug fixes and stability improvements.
Finally, Pebble has released firmware version 2.9. Included are support for the aforementioned actionable notifications and Android Wear compatibility, as well as some bug fixes and stability improvements.
Obviously the big part of today’s updates is the support for actionable notifications and Android Wear. While beta testers have had the feature for a couple of months, now every Pebble wearer with an Android device gets to try the feature out. And since it includes support for SMS apps, most Android folks will get to give replying to messages from their Pebble a go.
Once you’ve tried out these Pebble updates, be sure to tell us how they work for you!
