Google revealed some new Android soft keys with version 5.0 Lollipop, and it looks like Sony will be following suit.
Sony recently released an updated version of its Movie Center app for Xperia smartphones. What’s notable about the update is that in the screenshots that show the new app’s features, Sony has teased new versions of its Android soft keys. The Back and Recent Apps buttons look pretty much the same as Google’s (which you can see on the Nexus 6 below), but Sony has swapped out Lollipop’s original round Home button for a new outline of a home.
I dig Sony’s Lollipop soft keys because it decided to keep two of Google’s own Android 5.0 buttons, which fit in nicely with the new OS. And while Sony did opt to tweak the Home button, it fits in well with Lollipop as well and is a bit more indicative of what the button does when compared to the plain circle used by Google.
Sony has said that it’ll begin pushing Lollipop to its Xperia Z3 family in February, so it may not be long before you Z3 folk begin seeing these buttons on your devices. What do you think of Sony’s Android 5.0 soft keys?
