If you’ve been waiting for that Falcon Pro rewrite with Material Design that was teased a few weeks back, well, your wait is over.
Developer Joaquim Vergès today released Falcon Pro 3 into the Google Play store. As promised, the app does indeed have a a bit of a Material Design feel, offering a flat look that fits in nicely with Android 5.0. Also included are columns, in-line photos, the ability to tweet from multiple accounts at the same time, optimizations for Lollipop, pull-to-refresh, and a “smart automatic refresh system” that Vergès says uses an algorithm that adjusts refresh times based on your activity.
As for what’s not in this version 1.0 release, Falcon Pro 3 currently lacks a theme chooser, widgets, Direct Messages, and any sort of settings menu. Vergès says that he’s planning to add support for changing how the refresh system works.
Falcon Pro 3 is free to try, letting you preview the app using predefined Twitter lists. If you’d like to add your own account, you’ll need to pony up $3.99 for an in-app punchase, which will unlock your account for use with FP3 forever. Additional accounts cost $1.99 each.
Overall this looks like a pretty strong start to the new version of one of the most popular Twitter clients of all time. The app looks great, and in my limited time with it so far, it works smoothly and there are some nice touches, like a blue column on the right side that gives you an idea of how many unread tweets you’ve got. And while there are some features missing, I’m sure that Vergès is planning to fill out Falcon Pro 3’s feature list in future updates.
So now that the new Falcon Pro 3 is here, what do you think of it?
