ASUS gave us a couple of teasers in the weeks leading up to CES 2015, hinting at some new devices that could “see what others can’t see.” Today we finally get to find out just what ASUS was hinting at.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with ASUS’s Pixelmaster technology. ASUS placed a lot of focus on the ZenFone 2’s camera, giving it an f/2.0 aperture, zero shutter lag, and what it says is the “world’s best HDR photography.” The shooter also has a dual color real tone flash that aims to help your photos have more true-to-life colors. Oh, and just in case you’re not totally pleased with how your photos turn out, you can edit them afterward in ASUS’s Creative Studio.
Another big feature is the processor that’s powering the ZenFone 2’s heart. ASUS has thrown a 64-bit 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor into the body. Oh, and there will also be a version with a whopping 4GB of RAM, the most that we’ve seen in a smartphone to date. A 2GB model will be available as well.
Rounding out the ZenFone 2’s feature set is a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 IPS display, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE, 3000mAh battery with fast-charging technology, and Android 5.0 Lollipop with what ASUS calls a “brand new ZenUI experience.”
The ASUS ZenFone 2 will launch in March for $199 unsubsidized, though that base model includes just 2GB of RAM and a 1.8GHz Intel Z3560 processor.
ASUS isn’t traditionally a major player in the U.S. market, but we’ve started to see more of it lately thanks to AT&T, so hopefully the ZenFone 2 will make its way stateside. With that 4GB of RAM option, I’m betting that a lot of spec hounds will want to get their paws on one.
