Alcatel Onetouch PIXI 3 series of phones supports four screen sizes, three OSes

CES 2015 doesn’t officially begin until next week, but the folks at Alcatel Onetouch just couldn’t wait until then to announce the products that it’ll be bringing with it to Las Vegas.

Alcatel Onetouch today announced its new PIXI 3 series of smartphones. What’s interesting about these phones is that they’re compatible with three mobile operating systems: Android, Windows Phone, and Firefox OS. Yes, the PIXI 3 series of phones can run one of those three operating systems. However, PCMag’s Sascha Segan says that consumers aren’t supposed to switch the OS on the PIXI 3 phones themselves. Instead, the intent is for carriers to be able to choose which OS they want the phones to run.

In addition to supporting three operating system, the PIXI 3 series of phones also come in four different screen sizes: 3.5-inch, 4-inch, 4.5-inch, and 5-inch. The 4-inch, 4.5-inch, and 5-inch models all support 4G LTE, while the 3.5-inch version is 3G-only.

Alcatel Onetouch hasn’t offered up many other spec details of the PIXI 3 series of phones, but it’s clear that the main draw is that they come in a variety of sizes and support three different OSes. We saw something similar from HTC recently with the Android-powered One (M8) and Windows Phone-based One (M8) for Windows, but Alcatel has taken things a couple of steps further by offering an additional OS and more screen sizes. And even if consumers aren’t meant to switch the PIXI 3 OSes themselves, I wouldn’t be surprised if some folks try to.
