Google apps for Android, iOS gain Nest Learning Thermostat integration

After officially acquiring Nest Labs, Inc. early in 2014, Google put the company’s smart thermostat onto the virtual shelves of its Play store. Now Google has more tightly integrated Nest into its own products.

The Google apps for both Android and iOS now include Nest integration, giving you the ability to control your Nest Learning Thermostat from your Google Now app. Once you authorize your Google app to interact with your Nest, you’ll be able to change your Nest’s temperature with your voice by opening your Google app or saying “Ok Google,” then saying a statement like “Set the temperature to 70 degrees.”

In addition to the voice control feature, your Google app and Nest will work together to display a Google Now card to let you know when your Nest is getting your home ready for your arrival. When you’re heading home, your Nest will start to heat or cool your home so that it’ll be ready for you when you walk in the door. It’s great to see Google continue to integrate Nest with its own services.

While controlling a Nest from your phone was already possible with the Nest app, integration with the Google app can make it easier to control your Nest since the Google app is one that you might open for something other than messing with your thermostat.
