After revealing its big partnership with Dropbox earlier this week, Microsoft made its second big announcement of the week this morning by slashing the price of its mobile Office apps to free.
Microsoft Office for iPhone, iPad and Android are now free for all. Previously, the apps required you to have an Office 365 subscription, which costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. The suite of mobile Office apps includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Microsoft also announced some big news for each of its different versions of Office mobile apps:
When combined with Microsoft’s recent Dropbox news, which includes the ability to edit Office documents from inside of Dropbox, Microsoft Office is having a pretty big week. Now many folks can use Office on their mobile devices free of charge and share those docs with others. Microsoft appears to be taking the document editing fight to Google, which has long offered its own suite of Office-like apps for free.
