Google’s been on a Material Design update spree lately, refreshing its core Android apps with new user interfaces that are more in line with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Today another one of those apps is getting a makeover.
Google today revealed a new version of Google Calendar for Android, and it looks pretty awesome. The most noticeable change is the aforementioned Material Design refresh, which brings a new paper-like UI, floating red Create button, updated icons and more.
The first new straight-up feature in Calendar is Events from Gmail. As the name suggests, the new Calendar app can add events for things like flights, concerts, reservations and more that are sent to your Gmail account. Google also says that these events will update automatically if you get additional emails regarding the event.
The next big new feature is Assists. When you jump into Calendar to create an event, the app will suggest people, places and titles as you type, and it’ll learn your event preferences over time.
Finally, Schedule View makes your calendar look super pretty. the Schedule view will include photos and maps of place that you’re traveling to and illustrations of events like dinner and drinks.
The updated Google Calendar app is compatible with Android devices running version 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher. Google says that the update will roll out from Google Play “in the coming weeks,” but it’ll come preloaded on Android 5.0 Lollipop devices. And good news, iOS users: you’ll get your own version of this new Google Calendar app too!
