Yesterday the folks at Verizon shared with us their Q3 2014 results, and today it’s AT&T’s time to talk earnings.
AT&T says that it added 2 million wireless subscribers during the third quarter, including 785,000 postpaid connections and 1,275,000 connected device adds. AT&T’s prepaid arm lost 140,000 subs, which AT&T says is a result of declines in session-based tablets and the transition of the Cricket customer base.
In terms of hardware, AT&T added a total of 1.2 million postpaid smartphones in Q3. That brought AT&T’s postpaid smartphone base up to 55.8 million at the end of the quarter, up from 50.6 million one year ago.
AT&T’s Mobile Share Value plans now have 47 million subscribers, with the total number of Mobile Share accounts tripling year over year. Mobile Share accounts typically have three devices per account, and AT&T says that 51 percent of accounts have 10GB or more of data.
AT&T says that it’s got 20 million smartphones on pre-AT&T Next pricing, but that more than 90 percent of those customers opt to go Next when they upgrade. Of the 6.8 million smartphone adds and upgrades in the quarter, 3.4 million were on AT&T Next.
Finally, on the financial side of things, AT&T’s total revenue grew year over year to finish at $18.3 billion.
I’m currently listening in on AT&T’s Q3 2014 earnings call and will report back if Randall Stephenson and Co. share any addition interesting information. Stay tuned!
