Ever since Android L debuted back in June, speculation has been rampant regarding which dessert the “L” stands for. Is it Licorice? Lollipop? Lemon Meringue Pie? We’ll probably find out for sure soon, but a newly-discovered screenshot appears to point toward one of those treats being the correct one.
A screenshot in the Chromium issue tracker has been discovered that includes Android L-style status bar icons and navigation buttons. If you look closely at the icons on the left side, you can see a debug icon of what appears to be a round Android head on a stick. Sounds like a lollipop, no?
Nothing is official until Google says it is, but “Lollipop” seems the likeliest candidate for the next Android dessert. Not only does the icon in this screenshot look like a lollipop, but that treat would be an easy statue for Google to make and have it stand out form the other desserts on its lawn.
So what do you think? Will “Lollipop” be the next major Android release or do you think another “L” treat will take the title?
UPDATE: Google has posted a video to its official Android YouTube channel that teases which dessert “L” will be. While the identity of “L” isn’t revealed, the clip does show “5.0,” indicating that the next update will be Android 5.0.
