Back in June, we got wind of a new HTC phone referred to as the “Eye” that’s expected to be marketed as the “ultimate selfie phone.” We didn’t have any details to back that claim up at the time, but a new leak has shown that the HTC Eye could indeed take some pretty impressive selfies.
According to information posted by @upleaks, the HTC Eye will be a member of the Desire family. The “HTC Desire Eye” is said to include a 13-megapixel camera on its face, which would allow it to take some high-res selfies, along with a second 13-megapixel shooter on its backside.
Other specs of the HTC Desire Eye are said to include a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 2400mAh removable battery. We’re also told to expect HTC’s Sense 6 overlay.
As for the phone itself, the leaked image above shows a device that’d fit in well with HTC’s Desire family. It’s got rounded edges and colorful body choices, both of which are features that most Desire phones offer, as well as a waterproof construction.
HTC often uses cameras as one of the ways it tries to make its products stand out from the crowd, as evidenced by things like UltraPixel, Duo Camera and RECamera. The Desire Eye looks to be a continuation of that effort, aiming to cash in on the popular trend of selfies.
Last we heard, the HTC Desire Eye is slated to launch sometime in the fourth quarter of 2014, so it may not be much longer before we’re able to put that 13-megapixel front-facing camera to the test.
