Motorola currently offers a few different versions of its new Moto X: a GSM unlocked “Pure Edition,” an AT&T model and a Verizon variant. Interestingly, the lack of branding on the Pure Edition isn’t the only thing that differentiates it from the AT&T model, as Motorola’s specs list shows that the Pure Edition only includes LTE bands 2, 4 and 17, while AT&T’s model offers LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 17. Luckily for those folks interested in the Pure Edition, that’s difference is going to disappear.

In response to this LTE band question in Motorola’s official forums, forums manager Matt has revealed that Motorola is working to enable LTE bands 3, 5 and 7 on the Moto X Pure Edition. This support will be added through a software update, but Matt doesn’t have any information on when that update will go out to users.

Since the Pure Edition Moto X is an unlocked model that’s likely to be used on a much wider range of networks — including AT&T — than the AT&T-branded model, it seems kind of strange that the Pure Edition supports fewer LTE bands than the AT&T-branded unit. The Moto X Pure Edition is still estimated to ship 16 days after placing an order, so hopefully Motorola can ship this update before then or shortly thereafter.
