The BlackBerry Passport has garnered attention for many different features, but perhaps the one that most have focused on is the square shape of its body and screen. Apparently that’s not the only unconventional smartphone idea that BlackBerry’s got, as a company executive has revealed that there are more interesting designs in the works.
Ron Louks, head of BlackBerry’s device’s business, has revealed that the Waterloo firm has another “unconventional” piece of hardware in its labs. He didn’t say much else about it, but he did tease that it’s gotten positive feedback from BlackBerry’s carrier partners. Louks also said that BlackBerry is prepping a prototype device that’s easy to use one-handed.
Finally, BlackBerry CEO John Chen has teased that his firm will probably cook up another generation of the Passport, even though the phone has only been available for a week. “Given the receptivity for the Passport, I know that we’ll have at least another generation of that device. Chen also said that another generation of the upcoming BlackBerry Classic is likely.
So there’s what we can expect from BlackBerry in the future. While the Passport hasn’t exactly gotten rave reviews so far, it’s definitely gotten BlackBerry a lot of press, so I’m not surprised to hear that another version is in the works. And since its unusual design got BlackBerry so much attention, why wouldn’t John Chen and Co. make another unconventional phone?
Can you think of any unconventional device designs that you’d like to see on a smartphone?
