After teasing a preorder system to replace its invite-only buying program, OnePlus today officially announced its new sales method for its flagship smartphone.
OnePlus will launch a preorder program in “late October” that will allow anyone to place an order for a OnePlus One. If the company has stock, your order will ship immediately. If there’s no stock available, your order will become a preorder and you’ll be given an estimated ship time before you pay. If you do go through with an order and change your mind before the unit ships, you’ll be able to cancel it without paying for a thing.
The OnePlus One preorder system will be open for a “limited time window.” The company notes that you’ll be able to set up your shipping address in advance to make the ordering process easier when preorders go live.
OnePlus has gotten a lot of flak for its invite system, which has made it difficult for some folks that’d like to buy a OnePlus One to do just that. This preorder system sounds like it ought to make acquiring a One easier, and if you do receive an invitation while waiting for a preorder, you’ll be able cancel the preorder and jump the line.
What do you think of OnePlus’s preorder plans? Do you plan on trying to take advantage of it next month?
