Samsung has shown that it’s not afraid to borrow elements from one device in its roster and apply them to new models. One example of this is the metal band surrounding the Galaxy Alpha, which is present on the Galaxy Note 4 that was announced today. Now we’ve got another feature that’s making the jump from device to two others: crystals.
Samsung announced in April that it was teaming up with Swarovski to offer a crystal-studded Galaxy S5, and now it’s giving the Galaxy Note 4 and Gear S the same treatment. With the Galaxy Note 4, the entire backside of the unit has been covered in silver or gold crystals. Meanwhile the Gear S is getting a shiny Crystal Fine Mesh wristband that integrates the crystals into the mesh of the Gear S’s wristband, helping to make sure that they’ll stay stuck.
While these shiny Samsung products may not be everyone’s idea of a hot piece of hardware, I always say that it’s good when manufacturers offer multiple color and customization options for their devices, and that’s exactly what Sammy is doing here. The Swarovski Gear S Strap will go on sale in October, but there’s no word yet on when we can expect the crystal-studded Galaxy Note 4 backside.
