It's looking increasingly likely that the iPhone 6 will mark Apple's entry into the mobile payments arena.

Just days after a report claimed that Apple is planning to include a payment platform and NFC support with the iPhone 6, a new rumor has elaborated a bit on Apple's plans. Re/code says that Apple has struck an agreement with American Express for its upcoming mobile payment offering. Amex is just one of several credit card companies that Apple is said to have negotiated with, and a report from The Information says that the Cupertino firm has also make a deal with Visa.

Apple will be far from the first manufacturer to offer NFC and mobile payment support in a smartphone, but it's one company that could help the feature finally go mainstream. If Apple is able to make the feature easy and safe to use and if it can get broad support for its offering, then leaving your wallet at home and using only your phone for payments could actually be a reasonable thing to do.
