A little more than a month after a leaked render gave us a peek at Samsung’s rumored virtual reality headset, a photo of the real thing has surfaced.
According to The Verge, Samsung’s VR headset is codenamed “Project Moonlight” and will be making its debut at the Galaxy Note 4 event on Sept. 3. The photo shows that Project Moonlight uses two lenses that utilize a smartphone display to suck the wearer into a virtual world.
In addition to its dual lenses, Project Moonlight is said to include a focus dial and possible a microUSB port for connecting to a handset.
Other leaks have suggested that Project Moonlight may be called the “Samsung Gear VR” and that it could include a touchpad for navigating its user interface. Samsung is rumored to be working with Oculus VR — makers of the Oculus Rift VR headset — on this new Gear VR product. There’s no word on how much the Gear VR might cost or what kind of features it’ll offer, but the good news is that we may be less than a month from finding out.
