Google apparently decided to take its sweet time to share August 2014’s Android platform distribution stats, but today El Goog finally came forward with the numbers.
During a survey of devices that accessed the Play Store in the 7-day period ending August 12, 20.9 percent of all hardware was running Android 4.4 KitKat. That’s a healthy 3 percent jump from last month’s stats. Meanwhile, Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean dropped a couple of percentage points to finish at 54.2 percent and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fell to 10.6 percent.
Looking at pre-4.0 software, there are only two devices with any notable market share. Android 2.3 Gingerbread actually grew from 13.5 percent in July to 13.6 percent in August, while Android 2.2 Froyo held steady at 0.7 percent.
So there’s your August Android Update, folks. The numbers continue to play out just as you’d expect — save for that weird Gingerbread growth, anyway — as devices continue to launch with Android 4.4 and boost KitKat’s market share.
