We may be in the thick of Google I/O, but this morning Apple has made an announcement to give iOS fans something to get excited about as well.
Apple today announced that it has refreshed its 16GB iPod touch to include a camera and some new colors. A little over a year ago, Apple announced a 16GB fifth-generation iPod touch that cost $229, lacked a camera and was only available in a Black & Silver paint job. Now that model features the same 5-megapixel iSight rear camera as the other iPod touch models and is available in pink, yellow, blue, silver and space gray hues.
In addition to giving its entry-level iPod touch a camera and some color, Apple has also reduced its price. The 16GB iPod touch is priced at $199, while the 32GB and 64GB models cost $249 and $299, respectively. This new 16GB iPod touch is available in the U.S. starting today and will hit other parts of the globe “in the coming days.”
While the $229 iPod touch offered a nice, cheap way to get into the iOS ecosystem, it was always kind of a bummer that the device lacked a rear camera and was only available in one color. Thankfully, Apple has fixed all of that with today’s announcement. Now the 16GB iPod touch is an even more affordable way for someone to get their first iOS device, have a backup iOS product or get a new MP3 player.
