As we continue to inch closer to October and the debut of Apple’s rumored smartwatch, details about the device keep trickling out of the rumor mill.
The latest report on the “iWatch” comes to us from 9to5Mac. The site reports that Apple is working with several athletes, including Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant and Los Angeles King Dustin Brown, on testing the wearable’s fitness capabilities.
The Apple smartwatch will reportedly include several sensors to help track fitness, including steps taken, heart rate, calories burned and blood pressure. A sensor for measuring blood glucose levels is also rumored to be packed in.
In addition to its fitness functions, it’s rumored that Apple’s watch will be powered by “a variation of iOS” that will include mapping features. It’s expected that the device will be “heavily reliant” on being paired with an iPhone and will be expected to share an Internet connection with a handset.
Finally, Apple is reportedly working to position its wearable device as a fashionable piece of kit. The iWatch may come in two different variations, and it’s said that Apple is working with former fashion execs on how to properly sell the smartwatch as a fashion accessory in Apple stores.
Overall it sounds like Apple is going all-in on the fitness and health aspects of its wearable. The company is working with doctors and athletes on the device, so it’ll be interesting to see how it functions on the wrist. There’s also the claim that Apple wants to make the iWatch a fashion accessory, which makes sense since if people are expected to wear a watch for most of their day, they’ll likely want it to look good.
