Not quite feeling the Terrain Home home screen app that Samsung launched earlier this week? Perhaps Nokia’s new launcher will be more to your liking.
Nokia today introduced Z Launcher, its new Android launcher app. The goal of Z Launcher is to help you get to the app that you want more quickly. The more you use Z Launcher, the more it will learn about your habits and try to present you with the apps that it thinks that you’ll want at a certain time of day.
Z Launcher also includes a feature called Scribble that allows you to draw a letter on the screen with your finger and then jump directly to a list of apps and contacts that begin with that letter.
Z Launcher is currently available as a pre-beta download, and in order to check it out, you’ll need to sign up at the Z Launcher website. Nokia says that Z Launcher is compatible with “top selling phones” like the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5 running Android 4.1 or higher. Nokia says that it’s planning on adding more phones in the future. As for tablets, Nokia says that Z Launcher isn’t yet optimized for use on those large devices.
There’s already a multitude of launcher apps available to Android users, but Nokia’s Z Launcher still looks pretty interesting. It’s got a fairly minimal look, and the Scribble feature sounds handy for jumping to an app that it hasn’t already recommended to you.
