Samsung today joined the ranks of Android manufacturers with an Quad HD device in their stable.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A was officially announced in South Korea today, and while it looks similar to the standard Galaxy S5, this LTE-A model boasts some pretty major upgrades. The first is a Quad HD 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display, an upgrade over the 1920x1080 Super AMOLED panel found in the regular GS5.
Samsung has also outfitted the Galaxy S5 LTE-A with a beefier processor and more RAM, giving it the combo of a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 805 chip and 3GB of RAM. The original Galaxy S5 packs a Snapdragon 801 CPU and 2GB of RAM. Finally, as its name suggests, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A also includes support for LTE-Advanced connectivity that can produce download speeds of 225Mbps.

The regular Galaxy S5 is a respectable Android smartphone, but this Galaxy S5 LTE-A steps things up to superphone level and goes toe-to-toe with LG’s new flagship G3. Overall it’s a pretty impressive piece of kit, but the bad news is that there’s no word yet on whether or not this thing will ever see the fluorescent light of retail stores outside of South Korea.
