Health and fitness tracking is becoming a hot new trend in mobile, with a multitude of wearables and apps emerging as of late that promise to help you get into shape. Samsung’s got its S Health app, Apple recently introduced its Health app and HealthKit feature to gather data from others apps and now it appears that Google may be cooking up its own fitness-focused service.
Sources speaking to Forbes claim that Google is prepping a new health offering known as “Google Fit” that will gather data from fitness trackers and health apps. It’s said that Google Fit could let a wearable device connect with Google’s cloud-based servers and share the data that it collects.
Google is expected to introduce Google Fit at Google I/O 2014, which is taking place on June 25 and June 26. However, it’s not clear if Google Fit will be directly built into the Android OS or if it’ll be a standalone download.
As I mentioned before, health and fitness services are pretty popular nowadays, so it’s no surprise to learn that Google may be prepping its own health-focused service. Google Fit could come in handy for Android users by allowing them to gather their data from the various health and fitness apps that are available and making them viewable in a single location.
Do you use any apps to track your health and fitness? If so, which ones do you use?
