Huawei first introduced us to the Ascend Mate2 4G LTE back at CES in January. However, the company was fairly tight-lipped about the device’s pricing and availability info. That’s finally changing today, and the good news is that Huawei has decided to bring its new phone stateside.
The Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G LTE is the newest phablet in Huawei’s lineup, sporting a 6.1-inch display with a resolution of 720p. Since its got a beefy body, Huawei was able to cram an equally beefy battery into the Ascend Mate2, giving it a 3900mAh juice pack. The entirety of the Ascend Mate2’s spec list looks like this:
In addition to those regular specs, Huawei has included a few special goodies that take advantage of the Ascend Mate2’s large size. Those include a One-Hand UI for easy one-handed use and Windows On Windows for anytime access to features like messages, notes, calculator and calendar.
Huawei says that the Ascend Mate2 4G LTE is available for pre-order today from GetHuawei.com, the company’s new U.S.-focused website. The site offers devices as well as special offers and premium services. The Ascend Mate2 is priced at $299 unlocked, and anyone that pre-orders between now and June 22 will receive a SIM card with a free month of service and a case for their shiny new smartphone.
Huawei has offered several high-end Android phones in the past, but we haven’t really ever seen them in the U.S. The company is looking to change that with the Ascend Mate2, and its strategy of offering the phone straight to consumers through GetHuawei.com seems like a good idea. Now Huawei just has to get the word out and back its new phone and website up with advertising, which is easier said than done.
