In the lead-up to the OnePlus One's official debut, OnePlus announced that it planned to sell its smartphone using an invitation system to ensure that everyone got a fair shot at buying a unit. Now that we're nearly two months out from the OnePlus One's announcement and the Phone Smash winners have received their devices, it looks like OnePlus is ready to start putting the One up for sale.
OnePlus recently announced that the first round of invitations to buy a One have started going out, giving regular consumers the first chance to buy the CyanogenMod-powered smartphone. Google+ user Felix K. received an invitation to buy the 64GB Sandstone Black version of the OnePlus One, and according to the invitation he received, OnePlus is giving customers around a month to actually make their purchase.
OnePlus's invitation system is a bit different than the sales method that we're used to seeing, which involves a manufacturer just opening sales and allowing anyone to purchase a unit. This invitation program seems like a nice alternative because it gives everyone the same chance at buying a unit rather than only making folks wait around for a certain sales time or deal with a busy web store. That said, hopefully it won't be too long before OnePlus is able to simply open up sales of the One to everyone.
Have any of you received an invitation to buy the OnePlus One? If not, have you signed up for one?
