After leaking in hands-on videos and close-up images, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has finally been announced by AT&T.
Like the Galaxy S4 Active before it, the Galaxy S5 Active is a toughened version of the regular Galaxy S5 that launched earlier this year. The S5 Active’s outer shell is shock resistant, water resistant and dustproof thanks to its IP67 rating, which allows it to survive being submerged in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.
Outside of its ruggedized exterior, the Galaxy S5 Active shares many of the same specs as the Galaxy S5. The S5 Active’s full spec list is as follows:
If you’ve been imagining the adventures that you could take the Galaxy S5 Active on ever since we first laid eyes upon it, the good news is that you don’t have to wait to take it out into the wilderness. The Galaxy S5 Active is available today from AT&T’s website and its brick and mortar stores. Pricing is set at $199 with a 2-year contract, $27.50 per month with AT&T Next 18, $35.75 per month with AT&T Next 12 or $714.99 without a commitment.
While the Galaxy S5 does offer some water resistance, the Galaxy S5 Active takes things a step further thanks to its toughened, shock resistant shell. The good news for those folks that want a more ruggedized smartphone is that the Galaxy S5 Active doesn’t trade its toughness for weaker specs, so buyers are getting a high-end smartphone that can take a beating and keep on ticking.
