Motorola’s been cooking up a lot of interesting rumors and speculations lately, especially given that their May 13th event is just a mere three days away. While we don’t have a whole lot of official information, there is a lot of guesswork going into what exactly the release could be about; could it be the Moto X+1, the new low-cost Moto E, or the mysterious Moto G Cinema?
I’ve talked about the Moto+1 and the Moto E, but the Moto G Cinema is one I haven’t touched yet. Why? Well, there’s obviously some context clues here, but what exactly does the Cinema mean? Is it a revamp of the phone itself, or is it a specialized program just for Moto G owners? Obviously with a title like ‘Cinema’ we can expect that the new program or device has something to do with movies, whether it’s viewing them or making them, but which one would you rather have it be?
I feel like the more realistic approach is that the Moto G Cinema is a program or accessory rather than a revamp of the phone itself. The Moto G has only been out for a few months at this point, and we’re just now getting geared up about the next generation Moto X. The Moto G was meant to be a low-cost device, and Motorola is already supposedly releasing the new low-cost Moto E. I just don’t see Motorola putting a wholel ot of effort into a revamp of the same phone just a few months after its release.
I think that a program or an accessory for the Moto G, called the Cinema, is a good idea to keep people interested in the device. Up until this point, the Moto G has mostly been well-known simply for being a cheap and decent device. The Moto G started selling at a cost of $179 full price, but managed to keep respectable specifications and a good, solid build similar to the Moto X. After a few months, and especially if Motorola releases the Moto E, the Moto G is going to have already run its course at that point given that the Moto G will no longer (presumably) be that cheap anymore. There has to be something there to continue making the Moto G look good to prospective customers.
That’s where I think the Moto G Cinema comes in.
For a lot of people, smartphones are their sole gadget that they carry around for all things important: phone, social networking, music, and also as a camera. However, budget smartphones typically get the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to having a good camera. Perhaps with a certain type of attachment or a program to help make the Moto G’s camera better for taking photos and recording, people who want a cheap smartphone that doesn’t cut corners when it comes to a good camera would have a reason to consider the Moto G with the addition of Cinema.
Or, you know, maybe it’s just an enhancement suite of somesort, or a really easy way to buy movie tickets from your phone. I don’t really know. It is an interesting name, and I guess it’s important to keep in mind that this might just be a codename that has nothing to do with cinemas, movies or cameras. It’s still something I’m looking forward to finding out, though.
