Odds are that when you go shopping for a new smartphone, a smartphone isn’t the only thing you end up going shopping for. Much like when you go shopping for a new pet, there are some extra steps that should be taken in order to ensure that your new gadget stays out of harm’s way and leaves you with the best experience possible. How do you attain this? With accessories, of course!
Accessories are the butter to the bread that is your smartphone. Smartphones are particularly notorious for being fragile pieces of technology, what with being held in the uncertainness of our hands all the time and what not. It’s important to expect the worst to happen to your smartphone, because these situations happen all the time. Phones always somehow end up in puddles, toilets, bathtubs, or other aquatic hotspots; not to mention they’re continously at risk just to be dropped on the ground, which means your half-glass phone has a 50/50 chance of breaking if it does end up eating concrete. The best ways to help protect your phone in these situations, of course, are with accessories cases and proper screen protectors.
I hardly ever have a phone without both a case and a screen protector. I’ve had my fair share of broken phones, and the feeling of using a broken phone is pretty much a feeling of disgust mixed with regret - it’s not a fun feeling. So these days I’m a lot more conscious about my phone and how it’s handled. When it comes to accessories, cases and screen protectors are the two things I hardly ever go without, and are definitely the two most important for me.
Not to say that cases and screen protectors aren’t fun, but the real fun (in my opinion) comes in to play when it involves audio accessories. I hardly ever use Bluetooth capabilities on my phone, but when I do it’s usually to jam out with some Bluetooth headphones or speakers. I don’t mind having a wired headset or speakers for my phone, but when I’m exercising or moving about, being stuck to a wire kind of defeats the purpose of using a mobile device. Especially when it comes to wireless headsets, the freedom to move your head around without the worry of pulling the plug or pulling an earbud out is a nice luxury to have. I currently use an old LG HBS-730 as my wireless headset, but even after 2 years the headset is going strong and works really well with all of my phones.
Then of course you have the latest craze in smartphone accessories, the smart watch. It’s still an accessory that I can’t bring myself to purchase just yet, but it’s certainly being pushed a lot these days. Between Pebble, Samsung, Sony, and now Motorla and LG we’ve got quite a selection going on. Despite the fact that I personally don’t use one, I can see the draw to them as they can make mobile even more mobile than it already is. Who needs to carry around a clunky smartphone all the time when you can just have a wearable version of the important stuff on your wrist? (I do, but that’s beside the point.)
There are constantly new accessories being pushed out for smartphones all the time. With possibilities like Google Glass and even a smart Ring coming to us in the future, the accessory aspect of smartphones is getting almost as exciting as the smartphones themselves.
