Remember the Samsung Galaxy Beam? Introduced way back in February 2012, this device had a fairly mid-range spec list but managed to gain some attention because of its built-in 15 lumens projector, which allowed the device to beam an image up to 50 inches wide. We never heard much about the Galaxy Beam after its debut, but apparently there was enough interest in it for Samsung to crank out a sequel.
Samsung has officially taken the wraps off of the Galaxy Beam 2 on its Chinese website, and just like the original Galaxy Beam, the highlight feature of this new model is its built-in mini-projector. The projector has several unique apps that allow it to do more than beam an image onto a wall, too; Samsung says that it includes a notepad, flashlight and more.
Outside of its projector, the Galaxy Beam 2 is a fairly ho-hum, mid-range Android smartphone. It boasts a 4.66-inch 800x480 display, 5-megapixel camera, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, microSD slot, 2600mAh battery and Android 4.2.
There’s no word yet on when or where the Galaxy Beam 2 might see a launch outside of China. Considering that we never saw the original Galaxy Beam make its way onto U.S. shelves, though, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a release of this newer model. Still, it’s neat to see that Samsung is still cranking out unique devices alongside its bread-and-butter Galaxy S and Note products.
Would any of you like to have a smartphone with a projector built into its backside?
