Well, that didn’t take long. After officially hitting the Google Play Store in December 2013, the popular Android lock screen replacement Cover has officially been acquired.
Cover announced today on its official blog that it’s been acquired by Twitter. The company’s founders say that Twitter also “believes in the incredible potential of Android” and that smartphones should be more useful and contextual. They go on to explain that they’ll be building upon Cover and creating something that’ll be even better with Twitter.
The Cover app will remain in the Play Store for the foreseeable future. Cover’s founders say that if that plan changes, they’ll share the news rather than simply pulling the app quietly.
Cover aims to learn user habits, recognize what’s going on at any given time and recommend apps that will be useful based on what you’re doing. The app was updated to version 0.1.11 last week.
It’s not yet clear exactly what Twitter wants with Cover, but it’s an interesting acquisition nonetheless. It’s kind of a bummer to see the Cover team acquired because it’s not yet clear how many more updates the Cover app will receive, if it gets any, but the good news is that at least it’s still in the Play Store for now.
