Week 108 of PhoneDog’s Official Smartphone Rankings (OSR) brought with it two very big feats that haven’t been achieved in a long while. Not only did the original HTC One (M7) fall from the top spot on the People’s Choice list, but the People’s Choice and Expert’s Choice for top smartphone was awarded to the same device for the first time in 23 weeks. Congratulations to the HTC One (M8) for knocking its predecessor out of the top spot and stealing the hearts of the mobile tech experts. Will the HTC One (M8) dominate the People’s Choice chart like the original M7 did?
MT PLEASANT, SC – April 2, 2014 – PhoneDog Media's Official Smartphone Rankings™ (OSR) is the gold standard for ranking the best smartphones on the market by placing votes from readers and experts in their respective charts. After 53 weeks at the top spot, the HTC One (M7) was replaced by its successor, the HTC One (M8). Only on the charts for part of the week, the HTC One (M8) took home 100 fan votes, while the HTC One (M7) accumulated 87 votes. Finishing out the top five was the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 38 votes, the LG G2 with 32 votes and the Apple iPhone 5s with 29 votes.
Even after spending just a few days with the new HTC One (M8), our mobile tech experts found it to be their favorite in a big way, awarding it with a total of 42 points. This mixed up their list by moving the Apple iPhone 5s to second with 30 points, followed closely by the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and its 29 points. Tying for fourth place was the LG Nexus 5 and Moto X, both of which earned 20 points.
“We anticipated that the introduction of newly released 2014 smartphones would finally stir up the charts of the Official Smartphone Rankings,” said Rebecca Atwood, Vice President of PhoneDog Media. “The HTC One (M8)’s quick jump to number one proves that the next few months will continue to be eventful as more new smartphones become available.”
