Typically we only see an iPhone made available with an 8GB capacity after it's been demoted from flagship status and supplanted by a newer model, sort of like the iPhone 4S is right now. It looks like that trend may be broken soon, though, as some new leaks suggest that Apple could be prepping an 8GB version of the iPhone 5c.
According to an O2 Germany document posted to Caschy's Blog, Apple could be planning to introduce an 8GB iPhone 5c as soon as tomorrow, March 18. The lower-capacity unit would reportedly cost 60 euros ($83 USD) less than the existing 16GB iPhone 5c. Engadget has added fuel to the rumor fire by sharing an image of some packaging that purportedly belongs to the 8GB iPhone 5c.
So why might Apple be prepping an 8GB version of the iPhone 5c only 6 months after its launch? Only Tim Cook and Co. know for sure, but rumors have suggested that sales of the lower-cost iPhone aren't quite as strong as anticipated, and so a model with half of the storage of the current entry-level 5c could be a way to try and boost sales by launching an even cheaper flavor of the 5c. The good news is that with a launch rumored for March 18, it won't be long before we find out if this 8GB iPhone 5c is the real deal. Stay tuned.
