OnePlus has been building hype for its upcoming One smartphone in recent months by trickling out details about the device's feature set, including its CyanogenMod-powered software and sub-$400 price tag. That effort continued yesterday as OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed which processor will power the One and two OnePlus employees participated in a Reddit AMAA session to reveal a few more details about the phone.
In an announcement made in the official OnePlus forums, CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the One will feature a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. The exec explains that OnePlus chose the Snapdragon 800 after testing out several different CPU options and determining that the 800 "provided the best speed, battery consumption and heat management." The fact that the 800 enables OnePlus to ship the One to consumers faster than a newer chip might also played a role in the decision.
Meanwhile, OnePlus employees Carl and David shared a few other juicy tidbits regarding the One on Reddit. The two workers revealed that the OnePlus One will have stereo speakers, a notification LED, a battery that will last for "over a day" and both 16GB and 64GB versions. Also included will be LTE support on the 1, 3, 4, 7, 17, 38, 39, 40 and 41? bands, meaning it should play nicely with AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S. One carrier that it won't work with is Verizon, which Carl and David said is due to its use of CDMA tech.
We've gotten so many OnePlus One teasers at this point that we're finally starting to get a good idea of what the device is all about. There are still a few important details missing, like it's screen size and resolution, but the company did say that it's planning to release details related to the One's display next week. The OnePlus One is slated to launch sometime in the second quarter, so it shouldn't be too much longer before we actually get to see the phone itself as well.
