The Samsung Galaxy S5 did a pretty good job of avoiding the leaky spotlight in recent months, but now that we're hours away from the device's expected debut, it appears that Samsung's next big thing is getting a little sloppy.
Just a day after three phones that may be differently-colored Galaxy S5s showed up in the background of an Instagram video, a handful of photos have leaked out that claim to offer a clear look at Samsung's next flagship smartphone. Posted by HardwareZone and @SaudiAndroid, the images show a device with a design that's similar to the Galaxy S5 in yesterday's leaked video, complete with rounded corners, a more square camera module and a pill-shaped flash.
Besides giving us a preview of what may be the Galaxy S5, the newly-leaked photos also include comparison shots with the Galaxy S 4 as well as a glimpse at some new Samsung software features. When stacked up against the Galaxy S 4, the Galaxy S5 is a little taller and looks to have corners that are slightly less rounded. Interestingly, this purported Galaxy S5 ditches the capacitive Menu button found on Samsung's previous Galaxy products in favor of a multitasking key.
On the software side of things, this purported Galaxy S5 includes a "Finger Scanner" app that backs up a previous rumor that claimed that the device will include a fingerprint sensor. We're also shown a toggle for a new feature called "Download booster" that allows the user to use Wi-Fi and LTE at the same time to speed up the download of files that are 30MB or more in size.
We'll have to wait until Samsung takes to the MWC stage at 8:00 p.m. CET, 2:00 p.m. ET to find out whether or not the device shown in these photos is indeed the Galaxy S5. It certainly looks like it could be, though, as it features a design that's reminiscent of the Note 3 and S 4 but also includes some updated looks. The device also includes a user interface that looks similar to Samsung's custom UI as well as the company's new S Health app.
Now that we've gotten a much closer look at what Samsung's next flagship may be, what do you think of it? Would you be happy if this device turns out to be the Galaxy S5?
