HTC's been all about the Android updates as of late. Not only has the company been busy updating the One to Android 4.4 KitKat, but it also recently committed to providing major updates to its flagship North American handsets for two years after their release. Today there's some more good update news coming from HTC regarding the EVO 4G LTE and the One.
First up, HTC VP Martin Fichter has announced that EVO 4G LTE owners can now download a ROM Update Utility (RUU) file and sideload it onto their phone to update to Android 4.3 and Sense 5. HTC said during a Reddit AMA last week that the EVO 4G LTE's update won't be pushed out over the air due to the device's memory partition size limit, so any E4GLTE owners that want to move up to Android 4.3 — and really, who wouldn't want some fresh Jelly Bean goodness on their handset? — will need to update using this method.
We've been hearing about the EVO 4G LTE's Android 4.3 update for quite a while now, so it's good to see that it's finally being made available. Of course, it's kind of a bummer that HTC and Sprint aren't able to push it out to all E4GLTE owners, but at least those folks that really want the update can finally get it. One thing that's worth noting about the update is that it will wipe the phone's existing data, so users will want to perform a backup before installation. Moving on to newer hardware and software, HTC's Jason Mackenzie has shed some light on when we can expect to see Android 4.4 hit the AT&T and T-Mobile versions of the One. Mackenzie recently revealed on Twitter that the T-Mobile-flavored HTC One should begin receiving its KitKat update sometime this week, while the AT&T variant is expected to begin receiving its update in the last week of February.
